Brighten Up Broad Street
All are invited to come Downtown to Broad Street and support the neighborhood while experiencing this historical block in a new light on Friday, September 13. The Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association (ADNA) in partnership with Central Atlanta Progress, local business and property owners, and city officials presents Brighten Up Broad Street, a family-friendly block party with art, entertainment, food trucks, history, games, and mingling with downtown Atlanta advocates.

The Brighten Up Broad Street efforts are supported by the City of Atlanta, especially those officials with a direct tie to the neighborhood like District 2 City Councilman Kwanza Hall, who says, “Thanks to events like Brighten Up Broad Street and Elevate, Atlanta’s creative class is discovering one of intown Atlanta’s best kept secrets. With beautiful historic storefronts and proximity to both MARTA rail lines, Broad Street is pure potential. Earlier this year, we were successful in recruiting C4 Atlanta as the founding tenant of the M. Rich building. Since then, the good news just keeps coming, with Creative Loafing and Eyedrum moving in soon as well. Unlike many traditional festivals, with Brighten Up Broad Street art is not happening ‘to’ the community or at the expense of the community, it is happening with the community.”

Food trucks will be on hand so guests can chow down while engaging with artists and being entertained by musicians. Miller’s Rexall Drugs, a fixture on Broad Street since 1965, will be open late so visitors can stop in and see where Paul McCartney found the inspiration for his song and album titled “Run Devil Run.”

Brighten Up Broad is conveniently located between the Castleberry Hill Art Stroll and Eyedrum’s opening of Me Love You Long Time. Atlanta Braves fans taking the shuttle back to the Five Points MARTA station will travel through the block party where everyone will help them celebrate another Braves victory. All are invited and encouraged to spread the word about building a better block for downtown Atlanta!

About Broad Street
Broad Street was created in 1865 by the extension and renaming of Market Street – the location of the city’s first public market – and Bridge Row – where the first bridge crossed the city’s railroad tracks. While most of the Atlanta’s streets at that time were no wider than 50 feet and Peachtree was only 60 feet wide, Broad Street was 75 feet wide with 12-foot sidewalks.
